Commencing operations in country Victoria during 1974 ‘Maryborough Engineering’ and Fabrication Pty Ltd, the McCallum and Jeal families worked tirelessly to service the Electrical Power Industry and related industries with all types of transmission and Distribution Hardware, Metal Forgings and other related Engineered and Fabricated Steel products.

In 1982 the company re-located into leased premises in the Melbourne suburb of  North Altona, mainly to be close to its major customers and raw material suppliers base. The main business focus of Maryborough Engineering was simply to ‘realise a respectable profit margin by only manufacturing selected quality products, all at competitive prices and a customer service level second to none’.

This focus is still very much mainstream in the present business environment. The company invested in new equipment including the installation of an electric induction furnace, producing

‘repeatable quality forgings with high production efficiency’ which is still leading edge technology today.

In April 2001, the company was acquired and renamed ‘MEFCO Australia Pty Ltd, trading as Maryborough Engineering and Fabrication Company.’ The equal equity partners are Peter McDonald, Managing Director, and Jim Mann, Financial Director.

The future direction of ‘MEFCO’ remains totally positive with many business opportunities becoming available.

The new Directors and Management team is investing for the future to take advantage of some of those new found business opportunities.

A purpose built A$2.5M production facility and administration complex was built by Vaughan Constructions.

This new facility is sure to please all of our dedicated team with a very safe and clean work place environment. Provision has

also been planned for the site to be expanded to double the present size within its present site boundaries.

The Directors have already approved further investment in capital equipment purchases for the new products and services that are planned, particularly during the next 1-3 years. This augers well for MEFCO’s future growth and positioning in the Electrical Power Industry and related Engineering Industries.
